Here is a video of the iPhone I captured with my Canon A610 Digital Camera. Just to show you how it works well with the GSM networks in India. Also see the demo of the iPhone Safari browser over the home WiFi network.

After the jailbreak process i have cyndia and installer, but don’t have bootneuter installed to unlock my iPhone
It shows the signal level as blank and does not have any carrier name.

Vinod please help me, I need to get out of this even if it means going back to 1.1.4 and using iLierty or Ziphone.

Please help, i relly need your help.

Vinod Ponmanadiyil August 28, 2008 at 7:39 pm

@Abhishek: Relax!.. No need to go back to 1.1.4 and use iLiberty/ziPhone etc. Follow these two steps:-
0) Set the auto-unlock in settings to ‘Never’.
1) Open Cydia. Search for BootNeutR
2) Install BootNeutR. Run it.
3) In BootNeutR’s options, set:-
Version : 4.6
Neuter: ON
FakeBlank: Off
Unlock: ON
Then click on the ‘Flash’ button.

This should unlock the phone for you. Let me know how it goes.

Vinod Ponmanadiyil August 28, 2008 at 7:44 pm

For doing all this you would need a WiFi connection for sure. If you don’t have this:-
1) Just do a clean Restore of 2.0.2 in iTunes with the original firmware.
2) Then use QuickPwn – http://xs1.iphwn.org/releases/QuickPwnRC3.zip

Hi Vinod,

I am having problem with the mail client.
When i configure my mail client say Gmail or Yahoo, the verification is completed sucessfully, but when i open my mailbox, it says the userId and password are wrong and can’t connect.
I am using the correct username and password.
Is it a bug or I am getting it wrong.

I have tried many times but I get the same error message.
Please let me know what can be the issue. I googled but could not find anything helpful.
Is there any tool to get it correct.

Regards,
Abhishek

@Abhishek: Download BossPrefs through Cydia. Then fix user dir permissions with BossPrefs (By going to config/more menu). That should fix your email issue.

@Chetan: You can download Qik and Cycorder to Stream Live Video and Record respectively. If you upgrade to 2.0.2 using iTunes you will lose all your 3rd party jailbroken applications. But others including the unlock – will remain safe.

@Rishab: I have not seen a separate EDGE settings screen in 2.0 firmware where you can manually set the APN. If you have MobileOffice or HutchAccess activated, iPhone will automatically load the operator settings. Sometimes your iTunes itself will set it on the iPhone – with a prompting to you.

Anybody know/tried how to forward the sms from iphone.

Thank You
Saleem

Reply

Vinod Ponmanadiyil September 23, 2008 at 6:26 pm

@Saleem: You can forward SMS using the iRealSMS software available through Cydia.

@Mayuresh: iPhone 2.0 firmware does not require you to do anything manually to activate and use EDGE. Make sure you have subscribed to FULL-GPRS with your provider.

@chetan: I’ve tried call-merge once on iphone, it worked for me. Maybe a network issue for you.

Hi Vinod,

I was facing some problem with my 2G phone, so i decided to do a clean restore using itunes and unlock it again, using quickpwn.
I was able to complete all the steps, the last screen on the computer showed quickpwn has completed / suceeded successfully. But the iphone is still showing apple icon, with a star at icon’s bottom (with no moements) and nothing is happening. What could be the reason/solution? Also, i tried restoring it again, but neither itunes nor quickpwn is recongnising the iphone. i am in dire need of your help, please reply and save me….. please please please….

I have two iphones 1st generation, both are bought at same time and now upgraded to ver 2.0.1.
However, volume of one of the phone is very very low in comparison to other. I mean all volumes, speaker, headset, ipod, video evn the person receiving the call from the iphone is unable to hear.

Is this a hardware trouble? Is there any fix that is available? Please help…

If you see “Call Ended” and then “Call Failed” immediately after trying to dial out from your iPhone…..

There probably is no problem with the phone. I had the same thing happen to me – iPhone 1G with FW v2.0.2

Just remember these 2 steps:
1) Settings > General > Date and Time > (Here, switch off “Set Automatically” and manually select your hometown). Then manually set the date and time.

Apparently the SIM and carrier wont work if date and time aren’t set well, make sure date and time are the current ones

2) Settings > Phone > Show My Caller ID > Switch ON

This should fix the problem

Exactly! Its quite silly that after paying Rs. 599 a month for data with Airtel there seems to be so much ordeal in trying to ascertain their settings. They really should walk you through it.

Hi Vinod, greatly appreciate the help you are giving everyone here.

I bought a 3G iphone at an Airtel authorised istore. The salesman at the istore was pretty sure that the iphone was GPRS enabled and that I would be able to access the internet. The data plan is 500 MB per month free and thereafter 30p/50KB.

However, despite repeated (>15) calls to Airtel both from myself as well as from the Airtel Service Centre, I have not been able to get GPRS activated on my iphone.

Now I wonder: Is it really possible to have GPRS on the 3G iphone? Or do I have to wait for 3G to be available in India to access the internet?

Thanks,
Karan

Try doing a hard reset (power + home for longer till it reboots auto) and connect it to the computer through iTunes. See if it is identified. If so do a complete restore from the stock/new firmware file.

Hi Tony
Most of the officially unlocked ones works only within the country of purchase. This earlier policy was known as ‘country lock’ – by Apple. But I’ve heard that lately Apple have removed such restrictions. But you may want to reconfirm.
In any case, your iPhone has no international warranty, so you may as well unofficially jailbreak and unlock it. There are good instructions at http://www.iclarified.com/
