WiMAX in Bangalore

A call to the customer-care department at Reliance, gave me this fantastic news - WiMAX has been launched in Bangalore. The same day itself their Wireless broadband sales executives came to the house to explain the product and tariff plans.

Reliance WiMAX

I opted for a 300kbps / Unlimited ‘broadband’ connection. Other plans are :- 2Mbps/4GB, 600kbps/Unlimited. Mine would cost around Rs.1100/28USD(including the service tax etc).

The bandwidth capping just seems to take the excitement out of this 4G offer. WiMAX is capable of much more. They’ve promised the connection to be established in a couple of weeks. Since this is a wireless technology, there is an antenna to be placed which in turn will connect to a modem.

I hope Reliance will introduce the roaming WiMAX too in the near future. I will share my experience with the Reliance WiMAX with you for sure. Watch this space!

[UPDATE]
I have had enough with Reliance WiMAX. Their Service is completely unreliable. Despite repeated requests their service men never turned upon time. Those who came had no clues. The server disconnection issues still persist. Their total implementation of WiMAX is just too immature. WiMAX is all about higher bandwidth and better last mile connectivity. But Reliance is still learning their act.
I cannot afford to be a guinea pig any more. I have disconnected my subscriptions with Reliance WiMAX.
Your experience may be different though!

    Beware of Infospace Technologies
    (distributors of Reliance Wimax)
I bought a Reliance Wimax connection from these guys. They promised me a connection in 2 weeks after collecting money from me, but were unable to do so saying there was no tower near my house in BTM Layout, Bangalore. However I ahve been asking them for a refund and they are not paying up!!! So guys please do not pay any money to these people in advance and get cheated.

  3. Birojit Says:

I am from bangalore and same thing happend to me. They are not refunding the money.

I got frusted in writing to those people.

You can send mail to them

  4. Sridhar Says:

Vinod: Did you take the Reliance Wimax? How is it?

  5. A.tharunkaanth Says:

    Hai folks,
as i mentioned in my earlier blogging, this wimax to the last mile is brought by Relaince for the first time in global. So they don’t have any guidelines are they dont have any forefather in this regard.as i say repeatedly wimax is going to be the technology in future and relaince is going to be the no 1.The refund delaying is really bcos of the long procedure. It may take minimum 20 days.I dont have a right to talk about my competitor i can assure you a good service in all level provided if you allow us to serve you.

  6. Vinod Ponmanadiyil Says:

@Sridhar: Except for the occasional IP acquisition using DHCP delays, there haven’t been any major issues.

I am sure WiMAX is the future of Wireless Broadband - espcially once WiMAX enabled Nokia Handsets rolls out in 2008. I would assume Reliance would allow us to share the existing home-broadband with the roaming mobile WiMAX then.

If you can live with the occasional glitches of Reliance, You can boast of being an early adopter in future ;). I must also say that, Reliance DO deliver their promised bandwidth on WiMAX consistently without fail.

  7. Ambuj Says:

I am using wimax connection of reliance its decent in speed I am using 150 kbps. Initially i got some problem with them for connection as they told it will take one week but it took some 20 days they told due to network upgradation. now its up and running.
There is one major issue each time you connect you have to login at the relaince website with your user id and paaword and logout after use and if you are not logging out your paasword is automatically reset and then you have to call mumbai at their customer care then they will reset it and it will take some half an hour (earlier it was 3-4 hours) as i have faced this problem quite a few times. Even in case of power faliure the password resets, and its frustating they are saying that they are trying to overcome this issue and i believe they will.

  8. Vinod Ponmanadiyil Says:

You are correct Ambuj. It was frustrating initially to always call up the customer care to ‘reset’/'release’ your account everytime you forgot to ‘logout’. Now the problem seems to have gone away.

  9. Nimish Says:

Is there a website where I can look at the details and plans offered by Reliance WiMax? What about the CPE/Modem etc - does Reliance provide that and what are the charges for that? Can this be shared by multiple users at home - say over a WiFi network for the last few feet?

  10. A.Tharunkaanth Says:

    Hai Folks,
Let me Tnks Mr.Vinod & Mr.AmBuj for the positive comments about the new technology.Normally any new things in the global will have a abuse at first. As Mr Vinod said Wimax is going to be the future Technoogy.

  11. A.Tharunkaanth Says:

    Hai Mr.Nimish
If r still need the details of Wimax please feel free to call me in 9886349624 R Mail me at any time in tharun@pentinsys.com

  12. parthasarathi Says:

This is junk service introduced by Bangalore Reliance. I applied for this service one month back, my cheque is encashed but till now Reliance does not install this service and even their helpdesk guys are not repsonding properly….Beware this !!!!!!!!!!!!

  13. Vijay Says:

Please dont deal with A.Tharunkaanth or Irfan from Laptop world. They took my cheque on 27th of July till now no calls or connection. They are big time cheaters.

  14. Ravi Says:

ok … i took wimax recently from reliance. 300k unlimited plan. its working like anything …good speed and uptime.

1.i checked about bad comments about reliance wimax - many of them from users who took connection in early stage of implementation like july/august.

2.Marketing system is poor and best opetion is get area sales co oridinator number and contact him/her for connection. you can get this number from customer care.

3.best thing aboutreliance connection is they are not blocking any ports from their side that means you can host your own web servers and mail servers and can access from internet.

    4. their upload download ratio is 80% of download speed.
so you can host voice over ip calls with out any problem not like BSNL whoes upload spped for unlimited plans worest .

5.ALWAYS sign on agreement papaers if SIGNAL STRENGTH in your area is ok or not . its like more than 17 / - 67

6.one more glitch is you need to login to reliance portal and then only you can surf other sites. it will cause some problem while sharing net with ohter systems but easily over come by auto login script you can from big2all@gmail.com

so as far as wimax problem you can contat me at above mentioned e-mail

  15. ravi Says:

got mails about contact numbers — here what i have
you can dial to *333 from reliance and they will give number or 022 -
30337777 from any phone. and sales co ordinator name is bharath rao.

i ahce agency details from wher i got connection

  16. ravi Says:

reliance auto login script - http://unix.vc/reliance_autologin.zip

    if windows :

1.unzip and it will create one folder curl-good.

2.edit curl1.bat file and chnage username and password with your.

    3.put it schdule job

    if linux :

just run the curl command as mentioned in curl1.bat with your logins and put in cron job every 15 mins

    notes for advanced users :
if you want to put this cron job in remote servers ( fro example - if you have hosting accounts ) IT WON”T WORK becoz reliancebroadbandco.in won;t work out side reliance network ….

I need help on installing Wimax on Windows 98. Reliance has hired 3rd party guys to install. These guys are not technical guys. They came home did the wiring and installed the Antenna. They checked the connection on their laptop and activated my account. They could not configure my system because i have Win 98. Can somebody please email me the procedure to configure Wimax on my Windows 98 computer. I did configure as advised by the customer support, but my system is not receiving ip address from Reliance server. My questions are:
    1) How do i confirm my lan card recognises the adapter provided my reliance
    2) Is my lan card working fine
    3) Is my Antenna receiving signals
    4) Why am i not getting ip address from reliance server
    5) Anything else i need to know

  18. Ashish Yadav Says:

Please don’t try to contact Prabhat IT solution for these connections. I have paid to them in August and still I hadn’t recieve the connection.

  19. Manikandan Says:

I applied for Broadband connection in Bangalore on september 11th. But still there is no response from reliance broadband. What can I do in this situation. Please help me.
And please give the Reliance broadband customer care in Bangalore.

  20. Raman Says:

I was going through the previous blogs.
From i experiance i can say reliance is a real time cheater.

Dont trust that fellow A.Tharunkaanth he seems to be agent of reliance.

Same thing happend to me and they made me suffer to get my money refunded.

Now i have BSNL very good performance

  21. rajjayswal(Mumbai)Thane Says:

    Dear friend,
I shred my problem pls don’t go with reliance wi max

I get good single in my home building it working three day at very amazing light of speed on download is more then 50kbs. While I have more then ten computer in my cyber café.
But after 13 September 07 it not working due to DHCP problem……..
One of my friend he working in Reliance Broadnet he advice me you get “Static Ip” Fix ip from Reliance I log my compliant in reliance for static ip they charge Rs. 2000/- for one year for this ip after 13 sep 07 now 30 sep. I daily call in customer centre but I not get any perfect replay from this people.

From my friend he told me all reliance BTS tower is not configured for the internet.
We get internet connection our home to reliance BTS tower after that it route to fiber optic cable and it goes to reliance ISP.

But many of place on the road fiber is broken ………..

So pls don’t go with relaince wimax ……….

  22. A.Tharunkaanth Says:

    Hai,
Let me say thanks to mr.Vijay and raman for their open comments. But one thing i am sure that after some days these guys are going to feel that they missed the fruit of the new technology.Any way refund matter came to blog let me discribe it.
1.After feasability check the installation team will inform the status to Relaince technical Team.
2.If it is not feasble Relaince will inform to the Delaer(like us)Tro mail abt the Feasabilty,
3,this will happen only two days in a week.
4.Then the dealer will ask the customer wheather he/she is interested to hold the amount to give a second trial or waiting for the new tower.(Every week 6 towers are up grading. When their offial start up they had only 25 Towers now they have 80 Towers).
If the customer say no Then this mesage will send to relaince(By this time four are Five days would roll out for the customer after he came to know he cant get the connection).
5.local relaince office will send the rejection to their bombay office(This also will happen only once in a week.if the customer and dealer are lucky enough it may fall in that week list if not it will take another week).
6.bombay office will have a mail enquiry to all the cases.then reconfirm, then the same result will be forwarded to the accounts dept.then the repayment will be getting ready then it will raech the relaince main off at bangalore then it will forwarded to the respective delaers.
Totally it will take 45 days.
Here how we can act as a Cheaters?.

  23. Manikandan Says:

Thanks for your comments Mr. Tharunkaanth. I accept it. But u will communcicate the customers regarding the status of the connection. It is very
useful for us. The main drawback is there is no proper communication. If you rectify the problem, reliance is good.

  24. krishna Says:

Reliance Wimax is worst. Alway I have connectivity problems. The customer care service is very poor.

    don’t go the Reliace Wimax

  25. Ashish Says:

I’ve been charged 750 instead of 500 ( isn’t that cheating), they kept me waiting for 1 month just to
tell me in the end that my caonact number is invlaid ( though I had recieved
verification calls), and after 1.5 months of repeatedly checking with them they
finally came to my house just to tell me that there is no signal ( though the
tower is less than 2 km, and what more sales gus has mentioned 3 non-existing
towers to me to ensure me that I will get signal. Probably that is what Mr.
A.Tharunkaanth means by “the fruit of the new technology”).

  26. Sridhar Says:

I understand how frustrating some businesses like this can be. I was pulling my hair similarly w/ BSNL’s broadband service and am very happy to have finally switched to Airtel Rs.750 128kbps unlimited plan.

  27. Vinod Ponmanadiyil Says:

Things are going real bad with Reliance WiMAX these days. I am counting my 10th day of complete downtime.

  28. Manikandan Says:

Yesterday I got a Internet connection. But today I face lot of problem. It is not connect to network. Reliance people told that it is server problem. I don’t know what can I do.

  29. Vinod Ponmanadiyil Says:

My issues with Reliance resolved. I had forgotten to pay the Bills!. Too bad they don’t have any internet payment options. You have to visit the Reliance WebWorld to make the payments.

  30. manikandan Says:

I also don’t know how to pay the bills. Anybody know the procedure means please share with me.

  31. Vinod Ponmanadiyil Says:

    Hi,
I logged into to Reliance wimax GUI with IP address 192.168.1.1 option.

There were many options to check signal strength, other settings etc.

By mistake i clocked on option “reboot with factiry default options”.

then after restart the antenna is not able to find any tower. I am not able to get any reliance IP from them on..

Please help me on how to solve this problem

Note: Customer care is not at all helping…

  37. Naveen Roy Says:

I have had enough of this Reliance Wimax service. The internet service is great and their customer service is HORRIBLE. I have also had upload issues wherein I am even unable to log into mail accounts. I have had this from 17th Feb and I keep calling them everyday!!!. I have raised 7 different complaints for this. All they do is give me a call, ask if the issue still persists and even when I eat their brains out, they close the call saying issue resolved. I have come to know that Reliance Customer Service is bad, their Technical Team is a set of incompetent little fuc*s!!.

  38. Vineet Seth Says:

I have just given up trying to get my Reliance Broadnet up and running.

The CS (Customer Service or Completely Shitty?) representatives just are totally useless…

I gave a complaint to the dept and fired people from Bangalore and also Mumbai(H/O). None of them are competent forget helpful. They just suck your blood and drive you CRAZY!!!

I took a half-day and went to their office and was surprized how the Reliance Company runs !!! I couldn’t believe that they don’t have any process to solve problems whatsoever.

Initially the CS guy told me to pay the pending amount, which I did, inspite of not having access for more than a month. After paying that the CS guy says the connection is blocked! I asked them to unblock it but they say that they CAN’T UNBLOCK it!!!!! Can you believe this? On top of this they tell me to apply AFRESH!!!

I mean this is the most ridiculous company ever. Recently Ambanis were among the top 10 most richest people !!! And they run a company like this???? Bill Gates was #2 and Anil Ambani was there somewhere close as well. Would Microsoft treat their customers as SHIT?????? No……..

    My Customer ID is: 326692124294

CS (Completely Shitty!!) Executives I spoke to:

    [Bangalore]
    Aqueeb (10th March 2008; Close to 11PM)
Pankaj [He was the Lead] (Same night as above)
    45+ Minutes in total
    Result = NOTHING

    [Mumbai]
Shakhir (11th March 2008; Close to 11:30 PM)
    Mortaza [Supervisor] (Same as above)
    60+ Minutes
    Result = NOTHING

My Internet is still not working!!!! I am tired of trying to reach them and get this issue resolved!!! :-(

  39. Ashish Yadav Says:

Reliance is a bunch of bas***ds

I am using Reliance WiMAx as other service providers are not having ports vacant in my area.

Today morning I was not able to get the IP so I register a complaint 66277228 at 11.12 AM. As I wanted the connection urgently I called at 11:40 10 min call) and then at 12:10 (30 min call) to get my problem resolved. But only until at 1:30 I received any call. When I asked why it took so long to call me, as they assure to give a call within 1 hour. The guy on phone told me, “Do you want you internet connection or not?”.

Can you believe that? These people are not only incompetent, don’t want to help; but they bad mount with customers as well. Not only that, after talking to the executive LEDs on my network card slot stopped blinking as well. I don’t have a proof but I am sure that the guy has screwed up my connection setting so that I don’t have access to internet. Otherwise at least LEDs on network card slot were blinking before that guy called up.

I am writing this entry from a near by cyber cafe as even now no one from local technical team has called me. Though even earlier I have requested the local team umpteenth times to check my installation for possible problems, as I frequently face problems in my connection.

Folks, never in you life take connection from Reliance.

    NEVER

  40. Gautam Says:

The service of Reliance WiMAX is really bad. The problem is they don’t care after they have got the money which is not surprising from Reliance. I guess Reliance is a company who never cares about customer. My advise to all the readers is never ever go for Reliance. It will make your life hell and eat your money like a shark.

  41. Ashish Yadav Says:

Another feet for Reliance Customer Care Executives

I was facing the problem of slow speed connection from past week. When I lodged a complaint the technical executive called me up and started arguing with me that my LAPTOP has issues. When I tried to let him know that everything else works fine except the browsing speed is slow he started arguing more with and and put down the phone on me.

I just have no words for these sick people of Reliance, every time I thing they can’t sink lower, they prove me wrong.

  42. Ashish Yadav Says:

    Oops they did it again

They proved me wrong again and that too with so short span of time. My previous compliant for slow speed was closed without my consent by local technical teem.

I launched another complaint which again was closed by the local technical (???) teem without my consent. Both the times they lied that the customer (me) has told them that the problem has been solved.

I am with no other option but to continue as I need connectivity.

    Airtel guys are you listening?
