It is now evident that iPhone has native ‘possible support’ for Java applications. Iphone has a core ARM1176JZF chip with Jazelle support. Jazelle can provide the necessary hardware acceleration of bytecodes by means of an additional instruction set running directly on the processor core. It is estimated that approximately 90% of the bytecode can be executed directly in the Jazelle hardware.
Earlier in January I voiced my thoughts about creating richer mobile application platforms, highlighting possible Java ME(Micro Edition) support on iPhone along with Safari.
* Jazelle MVM(Multi-tasking Virtual Machine) for iPhone may be under active development.
* It could be very well be possible that Apple is waiting for the MIDP 3.0 specifications to standardize before taking the plunge.
* Apple may also be busy preparing a well integrated Java Application Manager(JAM) for iPhone
It would be really interesting to see if Java finally shows up on iPhone someday. If NOT, the days are not far when someone ports Debian-ARM with kaffe!
