Easy video conversion with MOVAVI

In these YouTube times, everyone knows a thing or two about video conversion. If not - they could wish in vain for a world with unified-video-formats. I regularly capture video using my Nokia N72, Cingular 8125 and Canon A610. The captured video formats are different for each. If ever I wanted to stitch together these videos and burn a video CD/DVD or such , the affair has just been tiresome. I used the default Windows XP- Movie Maker to convert and edit. The automatic codec download never worked or more so often I will miss the audio channels. VirtualDub was another one I tried- which was free - yet free comes with a price - featureless. Here I am going to quickly review a promising easy-to-use powerful software that lets you convert video files to different formats in no time! - MOVAVI Video Converter.

MOVAVI Video Converter features:-

  • a video converter to convert between any video formats
  • a dvd ripper - but no encrypted and copy protected ones.
  • ipod video converter to save videos and DVDs onto iPod, Zune, PSP, PDA and CellPhone.
  • merge multiple video files or convert any video file segment
  • extract audio and frames from your movies
  • supports Multiprocessors and Vista compatible.

I was happy to see that even the .FLV file types can be converted. The DVD ripper and converter can squeeze the Video to be watched on your mobile screen - in my case - Cingular 8125 - pretty cleanly without any visible lose of resolution. The ability to select the sections to convert is another useful utility I’ve noticed. My machine is a Core Duo with 1GB RAM and the speed of conversion was acceptable. Merging multiple video file types was really effortless with MOVAVI. There are video presets for emailing, streaming and blogging.

The personal edition of MOVAVI video converter is priced at $29.95.  MOVAVI has also an all-in-one video post-production suite for capturing, converting, editing, and distributing video over the web or for your iPod/Zune.
