My Favorite WordPress Plugins and Themes

I am new to WordPress. Yet I have blogged earlier on JRoller,Blogger and at wordpress free blogs. After purchasing the domain from GoDaddy and webspace from SiteGround , I created my first own wordpress blog. Self Hosted WordPress platform is awesome. It’s based on a very modular architecture and supports a plethora of plugins. There are plenty of optimizations you need to perform to get your WordPress Site SEO optimized. I have been trying to get the plugins selected and work the optimal way over here. After a few days of search and experiments with the blog, here I am with the current list of plugins and Themes

Current WordPress Plugins

  • The first has to be Sidebar Widgets !
    • I am no PHP expert and this plugin helps me arrange the widgets on the sidebar without touching the code
  • Akismet
    • This one blocks all the SPAM posts on your post-comments.
    • I am yet to even attract SPAM-Bot Traffic! ;)
  • Adsense Injection
    • Easy Ads from Google spread over the posts.
    • Have some level of control on the Ad Spread.
  • Bookmark Widget
    • This is a widget that can let people directly bookmark your blog, or an article on selection of social bookmarks sites.
  • DiggClick
    • Displays a “digg it” button at the beginning of your posts, with a lot of configuration options
  • Easy Inline SWF
    • This plugin allows to easily insert SWF files into your WordPress posts
  • Feedburner Feed Replacement
    • Forwards all feed traffic to Feedburner while letting through some important User-Agents.
  • Get Recent Comments
    • Display the most recent comments or trackbacks with your own formatting in the sidebar.
  • Global Translator
    • Dynamically translates a blog by wrapping the Google Translation Engine
  • Hello Dolly
    • Its just fun!
  • MyBlogLog Widget
    • Adds MyBlogLog widget to your blog
  • Rudd-O’s Wordspew
    • A live shoutbox with online user tracking and new messages fade-in for WordPress
    • I am yet to figure out how to place it on the sidebar as a widget.
    • Let your visitors share a post/page with others. Supports e-mail and posting to social bookmarking sites.
  • Snap Preview AnywhereTM Plugin
    • Add Snap Preview Anywhere(TM) to your blog
  • WordPress Database Backup
    • On-demand backup of your WordPress database
  • WordPress Mobile Edition
    • Show a mobile view of the post/page if the visitor is on a known mobile device.
    • I love this plugin. This one automagically identifies and applies a simple template for a mobile web request.

Current WordPress Theme

I love the ‘web 2.0 look’. Moreover if it could be AJAX’d and is plainly simple – I am all for it!

I have tried to AJAX the Simpla Theme by Phu. Let me know your comments. It was pretty hard to get the footer not float around.

Any comments on improvement of this blog is heartily welcome!
