BEA JRockit 5.0_02 Tops Former IBM Record in Specjbb2000 Benchmark Results

SAN JOSE, Calif., May 2 /PRNewswire-FirstCall/ — BEA Systems, Inc.
(Nasdaq: BEAS), a world leader in infrastructure software, today announced it
has reached new milestones in its Java performance leadership. First, BEA has
achieved a new performance record featuring BEA JRockit(TM) 5.0_02 — topping
previous results from IBM using the SPECjbb2000 Java Business Benchmark.
Secondly, the company is proud to announce that a BEA representative has been
elected to the Standard Performance Evaluation Corporation (SPEC) Board of
Directors, further establishing its leading role in the Java community.
SPECjbb2000, a validated industry-standard benchmark, is designed to
measure the performance of Java Virtual Machine (JVM) servers running typical
Java Enterprise business applications. The newly achieved record result
demonstrates the ongoing leadership position of JRockit 5.0_02 as the
industry’s fastest Java Virtual Machine. The new BEA SPECjbb2000 result
demonstrates the fastest performance, topping IBM’s previous record. Running
BEA JRockit 5.0_02 on a Dell PowerEdge SC1425 server with dual 64-bit Intel(R)
Xeon(TM) processors delivered 105296 operations per second versus IBM’s best
performance of 103371 operations per second with identical Intel(R) 2-way
processors.
WebLogic JRockit 5.0_02 has been specifically architected for use by
large-scale, mission-critical, server-side applications running on
high-performing Intel processor-based servers. Featuring a range of
state-of-the-art capabilities, JRockit 5.0_02 is designed to help customers
deploy their applications quickly and efficiently so they can achieve optimal
performance. Developers using WebLogic JRockit 5.0_02 can aim for higher
levels of productivity, manageability, performance and stability.
“We’re working with BEA to continually optimize the performance of
large-scale, enterprise-critical applications on Intel(R) platforms,” said
Jerry Braun, product line manager for Intel’s Digital Enterprise Group. “This
accomplishment demonstrates the exceptional performance BEA JRockit 5.0_02 can
achieve on Intel Xeon processor-based servers.”
“The fact remains that BEA JRockit is the world’s fastest Java Virtual
Machine” said Guy Churchward, general manager, Java Runtime Products Group,
BEA Systems. “The new benchmark result pushes our performance lead ahead of
IBM and Sun. Honing our competitive edge, we continue to lead in both Java
performance and feature innovation while strengthening our leadership role.”

New BEA Leadership in SPEC
The Standard Performance Evaluation Corporation (SPEC) is a non-profit
corporation formed to establish, maintain and endorse a standardized set of
relevant benchmarks that can be applied to the newest generation of
high-performance computers. SPEC develops suites of benchmarks and also
reviews and publishes submitted results from our member organizations and
other benchmark licensees.
BEA representative Steve Realmuto, a senior software engineer, has been
elected to the Board of Directors. With this new role, BEA joins other members
in managing SPEC’s overall operations and the affairs of its diverse
benchmarking groups.

About BEA JRockit 5.0_02
WebLogic JRockit 5.0_02 is designed to offer the highest-performing,
simplest-to-use and most manageable Java Virtual Machine (JVM) optimized for
32-bit and 64-bit Intel(R) Xeon(TM) processor and Intel(R) Itanium2(R)
processor-based servers, according to industry standard benchmarks. Out-of-the
box, WebLogic JRockit 5.0 is designed to allow Java developers to deploy their
applications more quickly and efficiently into production, helping to achieve
optimal performance through minimal configuration. JRockit 5.0 is also
designed to make it possible to more easily diagnose problems and to help
analyze the applications’ behavior and performance in real-time, during
production, without imposing a noticeable performance penalty.

About SPECjbb2000
SPECjbb2000, the “Java business benchmark,” measures the performance of
Java Virtual Machine (JVM) servers running typical Java Enterprise business
applications. Specifically, it is a client/server benchmark designed to
emulate order processing systems for wholesale suppliers. The benchmark is
implemented as a Java program emulating a three-tier system within a single
JVM. The tiers mimic a typical business application, where users in tier one
generate inputs that result in the execution of business logic in the middle
tier (tier two), which in turn calls to a database on the third tier.
